Govt ensures undisrupted gas supply for fertilizer industry

Fertilizer industry commits to meet urea demand for Kharif 2024

ISLAMABAD: July 4, 2024: In a bid to ensure smooth supply of urea fertilizer for Kharif season 2024, the government has approved gas availability for Fatimafert (Sheikhupra) and Agritech from Sui Northern Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) for six months. The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of the federal cabinet had approved the summary for supply of gas to Fatimafert (Sheikhupura) and Agritech fertilizer plants from SNGPL in its meeting held here on May 27, 2024 which was also ratified by the Federal Cabinet in its last meeting. After approval of the summary moved by the ministry of Industries and Production, Fatimafert (Sheikhupura) and Agritech will get gas from SNGPL for urea fertilizer production for Kharif season 2024 till September 2024.
ECC also approved the provision of providing gas at maximum volume/ pressure to Fauji Fertilizer Bin Qasim Limited (FFBL).
Sources said a meeting chaired by minister for Industries and Production , Rana Tanvir Ahmed, took stocks of urea fertilizer requirement for Kharif season 2024 here early this week. The meeting was also attended by Meeting was Chaired by Rana Tanweer Minister of Industries and Production and attended by Musadik Malik Minister for Petroleum, Secretary Syed Fakhre Alam and CEOs of fertilizer industry including Jahangir Piracha FFC, Ali Rathore Engro Fertilizer, Fawad Ahmed Mukhtar Fatima Group, Arif ur Rehman FFBL and Faisal Muzammil Agritech, and Brig Sher Shah Malik Retd, Executive Director Fertilizer Manufacturers of Pakistan Advisory Council (FMPAC).

The minister assured to the representatives of the fertilizer industry that the government will ensure smooth supply of gas to the industry to help it produce enough urea fertilizer for Kharif season 2024. Rana Tanvir Hussain appreciated the fertilizer industry’s role in meeting demand of urea and other fertilizers of the domestic farming sector and save much needed foreign exchange that could cost Pakistan on import of rising demand of urea of the local farming community. The government’s conscious decision of ensuring smooth supply of gas for all fertilizer plants will pay good dividend to Pakistan as it will enhance crops produces in 2024.
The fertilizer industry appreciated the role of the minister for Industries and Production , Rana Tanvir Hussain , in taking a timely decision for ensuring gas to fertilizer industry to help it operate on 100 % capacity and produce urea fertilizer to meet requirement of the farming sector for Kharif 2024.
