Govt moves to stop more spillover of hockey crisis

Appoints Mohyuddin Wani as PHF acting president . Interior minister meet hockey team to boost up moral

Islamabad : As hockey crisis keeps taking toll on almost daily basis after reports of disgraceful treatment given to Pakistani hockey players in Australia , the government has moved to seize more humiliation out of this incident by appointing Mohyuddin Wani as president of Pakistani Hockey Federation (PHF) on ad-hoc basis.

Mr Wani is a senior bureaucrat and is currently serving as secretary of the ministry of Inter Provincial Coordination in Islamabad.

Meanwhile , Tariq Bugti’s resignation as PHF’s president has been accepted by the authorities.

Mr Bugti had held a press conference on Thursday in Lahore to give his side of the story on disgraceful treatment given to the Pakistan hockey team during its stay in Australia.
Pakistani hockey team captain, Ammad Shakeel Butt, had shocked the nation with his revelation that his team mates had to wash dishes in hotel in Australia for food as the team management had not made any arrangements for their dinning and boarding ahead of a qualifying match for Hockey World Cup 2026.

In his media talk, Mr Tariq Bugti had held Pakistan Sports Boards (PSB) responsible of disgraceful treatment faced by the hockey team during its stay in Australia.

He had claimed that the hockey team had suffered in Australia due to mismanagement of the PSB and delayed release of funds for lodging and boarding of the players.

The Pakistani nation was in shock over the treatment that the national hockey team had faced due to internal fighting of the management of the hockey team and PSB ahead of the Hockey World Cup 2026 event.

In a separate development , Interior minister and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief , Mohsin Naqvi , had a meeting with aggrieved hockey players to listen their ordeal and give them financial support. Mr Naqvi handed over cheque of Rs 1 million to each player and assured them that no event like one occured in Australia will repeat for them at any stage.

The hockey team captain has also face the axe as he is banned for two years.
