Govt mulls to constitute parliamentary committee on EVM

Sense pervails over bitting controversy

ISLAMABAD: As sense pervails, the Pakistan Tehreek- e- Insaf (PTI) goverment has moved to constitute a parliamentary committee to create harmony and consensus among all the political parties over controversial issue of the use of electronic voting machine (EVM) in upcoming general elections.

Babar Awan, the advisor on Law, called on prime minister, Imran Khan, to brief him on formation of the parliamentary committee to create consensus among all the stakeholders over EVM issue..

Babar Awan , a senior PTI leader and advisor to prime minister on Law, had hinted at formation of a parliamentary committee on EVM in one of his mrdia talks recently.

According to media reports , National Assembly speaker, Asad Qaiser, also had telephonic conversation with Babar Awan on Tuesday to discuss the proposal to form the parliamentary committee to sort out controversy over EVM.

All the parliamentary parties are likely to get proportionate representation in the committee.

These high level contacts suggest that the PTI government was serious to sort out roaring controversy over EVM.
Since introduction of the idea of using EVM in next general elections, it had become a thorny issue between the government and opposition . The government seems convinced that the use of EVM will be the best solution to make the elections in Pakistan transparent. The opposition outrightly rejects the idea and claims the use of EVM was another ploy to steal upcoming elections. The controversy has become so bitting that none of the government and opposition is ready to give any space to find out an amicable solution to the issue.

After brawl for over one year, the government is moving towards right direction by working on the proposal of forming parliamentary committee to find out a workable solution to the issue.
