HDP signs MoU with Sindh govt for clean drinking water provision for Tharparkar

KARACHI: An impressive ceremony was held at a hotel in Karachi in connection with a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed between the Human Development Foundation (HDF) and the Sindh government.

Sindh Minister for Local Government, Housing and Town Planning, Syed Nasir Hussain Shah, was the chief guest on the occasion. Under the agreement, HDF will adopt 100 Reverse Osmosis (RO) plants of the Sindh government and invest its own resources to repair and operate them to provide clean drinking water to people of Tharparkar.
Talking to the media, HDF Cheif Executive Officer Sohail Awan said that in the first phase, 100 dysfunctional RO plants will be made operational gradually in Dahli and Chachro tehsils of Tharparkar. “The HDF will utilize all its resources to rectify and operate these RO plants. The Pakistani-origin American nationals have provided these donations. After making these RO plants operational, a large number of people will benefit from the blessing of clean drinking water. In Tharparkar, our priorities include the programmes like Open-Defecation Free (ODF), elimination of malnutrition and provision of skills to children,” he maintained.
Sohail Awan said that his organization has been providing services in Pakistan for the last 25 years in the fields of health, education, water and other important sectors.HDF was launched by a group of visionary Pakistani Americans in 1997 as a gift to Pakistan on the 50th anniversary of its Independence.

Expressing his views, Nasir Hussain Shah said that installation of RO plants in different districts of Sindh is PPP’s flagship programme. “We applaud these efforts and express best wishes for the organization for adopting 100 RO plants in Tharparkar,” he added.
He also thanked the Pakistanis in the United States for being aware of the plight of the people living in Pakistan and remaining on the front for assisting them.

Sohail Awan further said that the MoU between the Sindh government and the HDF is unique in a way that the HDF will use its resources for rectifying and operating the existing RO plants of the government in backward areas instead of installing new RO plants.
