ISLAMABAD:. The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday rejected a review petition filed by ruling party senator , Faisal Vowda, against his lifetime disqualification .
IHC had reserved the judgement in the case on other day. The court in its verdict noted that the petitioner , Faisal Vowda , has not provided any written proof of his disowning dual nationality and on the same basis the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had disqualified him for lifetime.
Faisal Vowda had dual nationality at the time of filing his nomination papers for contesting for a national assembly seat from Karachi in 2018 general elections . He won the contest ok the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) ticket. However, his opponent Abdul Qadir Mandokhail of Pakistan People Party {PPP) had challenged his won on the ground that Faisal Vowda cheated the ECP in his nomination papers as he held dual nationality and could not contest for the national assembly seat . The ECP held detailed hearing into the case and subsequently disqualified Me Vowda for concealing the facts at the time of filing the nomination papers.
In a related development , ECP has issued for election on the Senate seat fallen vacant after disqualification of Faisal Vowda. According to the ECP , the election of the Senate seat will be held in the Sindh assembly on March 9, 2022.
