“East or West, home is the best,” is a phrase that resonates with every individual on our planet, Earth. Unfortunate are those who lack a home, their destiny akin to chicks without a nest, vulnerable to predators that eventually prey upon them.
Captured on the evening of August 11th, 2023, at 5:35 PM, this photograph was taken at the Sweet Homes Orphanage in Sector H-8, Islamabad, commemorating Pakistan’s Independence Day. Having attended numerous formal independence day ceremonies, some graced by prominent members of society, it’s evident that we often strive to showcase ourselves as the best and a truly free nation. It was my first visit to this place at the heart of the city of the privileged and to have such an elite institution reminds of Lawrence College founded by the British for the English children orphaned by the war.
Independence is intrinsically tied to financial freedom , and Pakistan serves as a classic example. Presently, the country finds itself obligated under IMF agreements, compelled to sell not just its National Flag Carrier, PIA, but also the valuable asset of Roosevelt Hotel. Similarly, these orphaned children, without the shelter and education a home provides, risk falling prey to the worst exploitation by a society capable of not only subjecting them to servitude but coercing them into selling their bodies for money.
While a few individuals display empathy for others, politicians who genuinely care are a rarity, the ones already notorious for living a luxurious life at the others’ expense with least regard to the nation already drowned in a sea of debt over debt, with now hardly any chance to survive the throat slitting inflation . Among these throat slitters is Zamarud Khan, a selfless member of the Pakistan People’s Party, who has dedicated his life to serving orphans and providing them with the means to fly freely, akin to birds in the sky.
Zamarud Khan stands as a selfless exception in a political landscape where many prioritize self-interest, making him a source of pride for both the nation and his party.While the heart warming patriotic speeches go on when my attention got this adorable orphan proudly donning Pakistan Army uniform posing us a question as a nation whether we are the defenders of the destroyers of our beloved Pakistan .
