Interior Minister Vows Enhanced Security for Chinese Nationals and CPEC Projects

Minister reiterated Pakistan's commitment to safeguarding CPEC.

ISLAMABAD, November 7, 2024: Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to the safety and security of Chinese nationals and projects, calling it a top priority following a recent incident in Karachi.

Two Chinese citizens were injured in a shooting involving a security guard, which prompted swift condemnation and action from the Pakistani government.

In a visit to the Chinese Embassy in Islamabad, Interior Minister Naqvi met with Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong to discuss the incident.

Naqvi expressed his sorrow over the attack and briefed the Ambassador on the ongoing investigation, assuring him that those responsible would be brought to justice.

The Minister also conveyed his solidarity with the Chinese government and the families of the injured individuals, wishing for their speedy recovery.

“We are taking all possible measures to further enhance security around the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects”, he said.

Naqvi emphasized that security measures were being strengthened to create a safe and peaceful environment for Chinese citizens working in Pakistan.

He reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to safeguarding CPEC, a vital infrastructure project for both nations.

Ambassador Jiang Zaidong acknowledged the longstanding and growing partnership between Pakistan and China, noting that a secure and stable environment is essential for the continued success of their cooperation.

He expressed China’s readiness to deepen security cooperation and support the development of Pakistan’s institutional capacity in this regard.

The Ambassador also thanked Naqvi for the excellent arrangements made during the recent visit of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang to Pakistan.

He conveyed good wishes from Chinese President Xi Jinping for the health of former Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari, who is currently recovering from illness.

Both the Interior Minister and Ambassador Jiang agreed to collaborate on a joint strategy to prevent similar incidents in the future, underscoring the strength of the strategic partnership between Pakistan and China.
