 Iran’s Foreign Minister Meets Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Discusses Regional Issues

 

ISLAMABAD, November 5, 2024: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi met with Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday, during his first official visit to Pakistan as Iran’s top diplomat.

Prime Minister Sharif extended a warm welcome to Minister Araghchi and conveyed his best wishes to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and President Massoud Pezeshkian.

The Prime Minister reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening its historic and brotherly ties with Iran, emphasizing the importance of regular high-level exchanges and enhancing cooperation in areas of mutual interest.

The meeting also focused on the ongoing crisis in the Middle East. Prime Minister Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s strong support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and statehood.

He condemned Israel’s actions in Gaza, describing them as a “genocidal campaign” against the Palestinian population, and called for an immediate ceasefire, the delivery of humanitarian aid, and the recognition of Palestinians’ right to self-determination, in line with United Nations resolutions and the stance of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

The Prime Minister also condemned the Israeli attack on Iran on October 26, 2024, and reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering support for Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Foreign Minister Araghchi thanked Pakistan for its principled position on regional issues and briefed the Prime Minister on Iran’s perspective regarding the situation in the Middle East.
