Kakar’s govt fails to find relief in power bills

Public protests continue against inflated power bills

ISLAMABAD: August 29,2023: The caretaker federal cabinet could not reach to any conclusion over granting relief to the public in power bills delivered for July.

The federal cabinet met here on Tuesday with caretaker prime minister , Anwaarul Haq Kakar , in the chair . The officials of the Power Division presented various proposals to the cabinet to provide at least some relief to the consumers who are up in the arms against inflated power bills of the month of July.

Among many others , the Power Division proposed to the caretakers’ cabinet to stagger the amount of power bills of July in five equal installments . The officials of the Power Division argued in support of their proposed plan in the meeting and claimed that the installments plan would provide much-needed relief to the consumers without hurting revenue of the power system . The majority of the cabinet members endorsed the installments plan and suggested to the cabinet to take the proposed plan of installments to the International Monetary Fund (IMF) for its consideration before formally announcing it to grant relief to the public..

The caretaker cabinet on the basis of the arguments of its majority of members decide to go to IMF to take into confidence before making any relief to the people of Pakistan . Meanwhile , violent protests are continuing across Pakistan . The protestors are demanding relief in the power bills of July ,besides putting an end to free electricity provision available to the employees of the power distribution companies.
