Lt Gen (R) Nazir Ahmad appointed as NAB chairman

ISLAMABAD : March 4,2023: The government has appointed Lt.general (R) Nazir Ahmad as new chief of National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

According to a notification issued by the government Lt General , Nazir Ahmad , has been appointed as NAB chairman after necessary consultation between the leader of the House and opposition leader for three years.

The constitution demands meaningful consultation between the leader of the House (PM) and opposition leader.

Since the court had cancelled the acceptance.of the resignations of the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) members and the party chief whip ,
Amir Dogar, had recommended the name of Shah Mahmood Qureshi for the slot of the opposition leader , the government decision to pick the new NAB chief in consultation between the leader of the House and opposition leader , Raja Riaz , is questionable.

The Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has termed the appointment of Lt. General ( R), Nazir Ahmad, as NAB chairman as illegal and in violation of the constitution.

PTI senior leader , Fawad Chairman , has lamented the government decision of appointing NAB chairman and termed it as unlawful and in violation of the constitution.

The office of NAB chairman had fallen vacant last month when Aftab Sultan had resigned as anti graft body chief. Aftab Sultan had cited interference and pressure as a cause of his resignation as NAB boss. Aftab Sultan ‘s resignation had put a big question mark on the credibility of Shahbaz Sharif government.
