Islamabad: The Sindh province government will receive Rs 50 billion from the federal government to execute its emergency housing project.
The cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) recently met and decided.
According to the Ministry of Planning, Development, and Special Initiatives, the Sindh government could receive Rs30 billion for the “Flood Response Emergency Housing Project” from the fiscal year 2024–2025 budget. This amount later increased to Rs50 billion for the federal Public Sector Development Program’s (PSDP) share.

The planning ministry noted in its briefing that on June 29, 2024, the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) authorized a revised PC-I of the Flood Response Emergency Housing Project, which has a total cost of Rs296 billion.
When it gave its approval, Ecnec instructed that the Rs50 billion local component be included, spread out over two fiscal years, so that the PSDP included a provision for Rs30 billion in the fiscal year 2024–2025 and the remaining Rs20 billion in the fiscal year 2025–2026.
The project has received the required PSDP allocation under the Ministry of Planning Development Expenditure Demand No. 120 for fiscal year 2024–2025.
According to the Ministry of Planning’s authorization and the Finance Division’s release strategy for the development budget, the allotted Rs 30 billion must be provided to the Sindh government.

Similar to other provincial projects included in the PSDP, the allocation is required to be placed in the appropriate demand category of the Finance Division through a technical supplementary grant for subsequent transfer to the Sindh government through the issuance of debit authority.
The ECC approved the proposal after reviewing a summary of the “Transfer of Emergency Housing Project (Revised) from the Ministry of Planning to the Finance Division” provided by the Ministry of Planning.
