ISLAMABAD: The National Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) on Thursday approved major increase in power rates of Rs 4.30 per unit for the consumers.
The increase in power rates of Rs 4.30 has been done against fuel adjustment of November last year. The new increase in power rates will apply to all categories of the consumers except lifeline category.
The increase of Rs 4.30 per unit in power rates has come ahead of possible jump in petroleum product prices. The PEMRA issued a notification of the increase in power rates here on Thursday.
The government is hinting at surge in petroleum product prices from January 16, 2022 for next fortnight . Big increase in power rates and possible increase in petroleum products are going to bring huge burden on the people who are already moaning under unbearable financial burden of price-hike.
The repeated increase in utilities rates have added to mounting pressure on the people during the Imran rule, but the government is still using this option to find a strategy to increase income of the utility companies.
