Islamabad: March 17, 2026 : A statement issued by the Prime minister office (PMO) on Tuesday said in the backdrop of the ongoing Gulf oil crisis and the consequent austerity measures announced by the Government, it has been decided that the Pakistan Day Parade and associated ceremonial events shall not be held on 23rd March 2026.
The day shall, however, be commemorated with dignity and reverence through a simple flag‑hoisting ceremony at appropriate levels. This measure is being taken to ensure that the resilience and unwavering commitment of the nation to the ideals of Pakistan Day remain aligned with the broader austerity framework. Ministries, divisions, and departments are advised to mark the occasion in a solemn and respectful manner, ensuring that the essence of the day is preserved despite the scaled‑down celebrations.
Pakistan celebrates 23 March every year as a day of Pakistan. Special ceremonies are held at federal and provincial levels and Pakistan’s armed forces march past to honour the founder of Pakistan and his vision.
The on-going ME war has created a global crisis and every country is tightening belt to save energy and avoid unnecessary expenses. Pakistan is also taking a number of measures to make judicious use of energy. These factors contributed to force Pakistan to cancel routine functions including military hardwares in the military parade and celebrate March 23 (Youm e Pakistan) with simplicity.
