Islamabad 29th April 2025: In a significant move to enhance the accessibility and affordability of medical and dental education in Pakistan and according to the recommendation of Committee on Medical Education Reforms constituted by the Prime Minister of Pakistan chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan , the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PM&DC in exercise of powers conferred under Section 20 (7) and (8) of the PM&DC Act,2022, has decided to cap / fix the tuition fee with ancillary matter for MBBS and BDS programs at PKR 1.8 million for all sessions, with a 5 % increase for Session 2025 and subsequent increases based on the Consumer Price Index (CPI) inflation rate from Session 2026 onwards.
The institutions who has already charged fee from students over the capped / fixed fee and ancillary matters, that shall either be refunded or be adjusted in subsequent session
Private medical and dental institutions wishing to impose fees beyond the set limit up to a maximum of PKR 2.5 million, must now have to provide detailed financial justifications to the PM&DC for evaluation and approval. The criteria for assessing such requests will be communicated in due course.
The PM&DC has emphasized that all private medical and dental colleges must adhere strictly to the new fee structure. Institutions failing to comply will face penalties as stipulated under current regulations, reinforcing the importance of accountability in educational financing.
Students, parents, and stakeholders who experience non-compliance or overcharging are encouraged to voice their concerns through the PM&DC Complaint Portal, ensuring that their grievances are addressed promptly and effectively.
This massive initiative recognizing the collaborative efforts of the PM&DC and the members of PAMI under the leadership of the Deputy Prime Minister throughout this extensive process. The capping of medical and dental college fees is a monumental stride toward promoting fairness, transparency, and accessibility in medical and dental education across Pakistan and all stakeholders jointly worked on this gigantic task.
