Ministry of Law, NADRA Launch Pakistan’s First National Sex Offenders Register

ISLAMABAD, November 5, 2024: Pakistan has officially launched its first-ever National Sex Offenders Register, a significant step towards combating sexual violence and abuse in the country.

The register was inaugurated at a ceremony in Islamabad, attended by officials from the Ministry of Law and Justice, the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), and the National Police Bureau (NPB).

The initiative aims to establish a more proactive and effective system to track and manage convicted sex offenders, making the information accessible to both institutions and the public.

The goal is to enhance public safety and prevent sexual crimes by providing a comprehensive database that can be used by law enforcement agencies, institutions, and the general public.

Under the provisions of Section 24 of the Anti-Rape (Investigation and Trial) Act, 2021, NADRA was tasked with creating and maintaining the National Sex Offenders Register.

The Ministry of Law and Justice, in collaboration with a special committee formed under the law, finalized the rules for the register in September 2023, paving the way for its formal launch.

The register will allow authorities to monitor and track convicted sex offenders, helping to prevent recidivism and improve the overall safety of vulnerable groups, particularly women and children. This initiative is seen as a crucial step in Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to address sexual violence provide a and safer environment for all citizens.
