Lahore: The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Monday informed the Lahore High Court (LHC) it arrested Sharif Group of companies’ chief financial officer (CFO), Muhammad Usman, on solid evidence. Its prosecutor, Waris Ali Janjua, told the court during the hearing of the plea filed by Mohammad Usman that the accused was arrested after getting all necessary evidence to present before the court of law to take his case to the logical conclusion. The accused, who was apprehended by NAB two days ago, had challenged his arrest before LHC.
NAB’s prosecutor apprised the court that Mohammad Usman was a facilitator for money laundering of Sharif family and he was arrested on the basis of solid evidence and statements given by some suspects of the case. He informed the court that the accused was an important character in money laundering case against Sharif family and his arrest can help NAB prove its case before the court of law. He argued that Sharif family used names of their servants and employees to open fake accounts in different banks and then use these fake accounts for money laundering to different countries. The accused told the court in response to a query that NAB officials arrested him from Multan road two days ago and he was not aware of the cause of his arrest. NAB prosecutor contested the arguments of the accused and informed the court that the accused was informed the cause of his arrest in money laundering case and NAB was now investigating him on the same pretext. The court, after hearing the arguments, handed over the accused to NAB on 14 day physical remand.
Sharif family is facing a number of cases of money laundering for the last two years. NAB has already arrested a number of employees of Sharif Group of Companies in money laundering case. Hamza Shahbaz, elder son of Shahbaz Sharif is in jail and Maryam Nawaz, elder daughter Nawaz Sharif is on bail in similar cases.
