NCSW condemns disowning of actoress Humaira Asghar’s body by family; ۔

Commission calls for dignity in death for All women

Islamabad: The National Commission on the Status of Women (NCSW) has strongly condemns the disturbing circumstances surrounding the mysterious death of actor Humaira Asghar and called it as shameful refusal of her family to claim her body.

No one—regardless of profession, lifestyle, or public perception—deserves to be abandoned in death. The disowning of a woman in death reflects a deeply troubling gender bias, social stigma, and collective failure to uphold women’s dignity.

NCSW appreciates the Sindh Cultural Department for stepping in and taking responsibility for Humaira Asghar’s burial. However, the abandonment of her body by her own family is an indictment of the patriarchal attitudes that continue to devalue the lives—and deaths—of women in our society.

We urge all segments of society, especially the media and cultural stakeholders, to refrain from sensationalism and instead advocate for respect, empathy, and equal treatment for women—both in life and in death.

NCSW calls for a thorough investigation into the cause of death and reiterates its commitment to protecting the dignity, rights, and humanity of every woman in Pakistan.

In a latest development , close relatives had contacted Sindh police to take Humaira’s  dead body and bury in Lahore.

For many days after unveiling of Humaira Asghar’s mysterious death in her flat in Karachi.
