Scorching heat could be deadly: Warns NDMA

ISLAMABAD: June 22, 2023: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued new guidelines for the people to save themselves from scorching heat that it noted could be killing if precautionary measures were overlooked.
NDMA handout issued today (Thursday) here said the heatwave which has engulfed Pakistan these days could be deadly if proper care is not taken to offset its effects.

Pakistan is braving severe heatwave these days and mercury in many parts of it is touching 47 degree and in some areas of interior Sindh and Southern Punjab. in its next door neighbor ,India situation is even more critical. Hundreds of people in different states have perished due to killing heatwave.

MET department is also cautioning the people of severe heatwave and advising them to take precautionary measures like drink more water, use shades to cover heads and take care of elderly persons and kids to keep them safe from scorching heat.

The data available at MET website shows Pakistan’s temperature is soaring fast putting difficult situation for the people to tackle with it. According to MET website, today the highest temperature 49 degree was recorded in Nukkundi , Balochistan.
NDMA guidelines suggest that Pakistan may remain under the current heatwave for some a few days more and there was urgent need to take precautionary measures to offset deadly impact of the heat wave.

Pakistan has experienced moderate temperature in May and mid of June and it adversely affected their immune system to resist rise in heat in summer season. Historically , Pakistan bear temperature as high as 50 degree in summer but this summer is bit different since mercury was much below normal level in May and first half of June and with shooting up of mercury to around 46 degree .
