ISLAMABAD : The Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) rally in Multan is going to turn into a real battle field between the Pakistan Tehreek Insaf (PTI) government and the opposition alliance.
Taking defient position, PDM has announced to hold rally in Multan on November 30, 2020 at any cost.
The government too is gearing up to implement its authority and establish writ of the state come what may.
Both sides are taking extreme position without considering the potental threat to the democratic system in Pakistan if direct clash happens.
None of the two sides is ready to give -up its position and provide some space to the other side to let the event happen peacefully or cancel it in the best interest of the democracy and the country .
Come what may , PDM is determined to make Multan rally a big power show so that it could make its last public gathering in Lahore a real game changer in next few days.
The Imran government on the other side is convinced that it can stop the opposition from holding the PDM rally in Multan by using the force. To make the use of force against the opposition a final option , the Buzdar sarkar has unleashed entire state machinery to teach the opposition parties a lesson on the ground.
The government, which is supposed to give breathing space to the opposition to keep things going in the positive direction is going other way around . Its arresting political workers of the opposition parties on the eve of the Multan rally. The arrests are not confined to the workers . Rarher , the police are raiding houses and offices of some senior leaders of the opposition parties.
The PDM leadership is continously cautioning the government of severe reaction in case it did not stop arreats of the opposition parties’ workers.
JUI (F) chief , Maulana Fazalur Rehman, was extremely harsh on the arrest of the opposition workers when he had talk with media on Sunday. He made it clear to the government that PDM was going to hold rally in Multan at the same venue and the same day and if the government did not take sane decision and stops opposition from using its right of holding public rallies at any public place and something unexpected happens its responsibility will rest with prime minister, Imran Khan, and his administration. He authorised his workers to give answer of the ‘danda with danda ‘.
PMLN spokesperson , Maryam Aurangzeb , also had the same point of view . She claimed in her media talk that the PTI govermemt was using COVID-19 as a tool to de-track the democratic stuggle of the opposition parties. She alleged the government has arrested hundreds of political workers of the PMLN and other political parties.
PPP chairman, Bilawal Bhutto, has already warned the PTI governmemt of severe backlash in case it used force to.stop opposition from holding rally in Multan.
Rana Sanaullah was extremely right in claimimg in a media talk show that Multan rally has become successful even before its happening.
The opposition wanted to make a show at Multan by holdimg a rally and it achieved the goal in advance as it managed to turn the event into a flash point for public.
The opposition might have not got the edge politically by pulling even one million people for Multan rally that it got by creating furore in the media on the issue.
The government made it happen by mishandling the issue . Its all measures taken right from the day of announcing public rally by PDM in Multan are over and above sanity.
The government is neither behaving seriously and nor tackling the issue wisely.
What will be outcome of the stand-off between the government and PDM on Multan rally, its time to tell, but one thing which both sides should keep in mind is that they should not go to that extent which could result in making thimgs worse for all the players.
