ISLAMABAD, Syed Nazir Abbas Zaidi had been in the National Accountability Buteau (NAB) custody in a multi- billion fraud case for a long time. Factually, the man now holding the office of secretary general of OCAC had been a central figure of each one mega fraud of Pakistan’s oil sector since 2004. For over one and half decades, Syed Nazir Abbas Zaidi’s name had been appearing in every oil sector fraud and subsequent investigations.
NAB record, made available to NEWSMAN suggested that Syed Nazir Abbas Zaidi was a vibrant character of former Petroleum minister , Dr Asim Hussain ‘s led oil mafia. He, as a 20 grade officer of the state-run Pakistan State Oil (PSO), remained a key frontman of Dr Asim Hussain in the Pakistan People Party (PPP) rule (2008- 2013) and was involved in massive corruption. Syed Nazir Abbas Zaidi had been holding the charge of General Manager supply in PSO for more than any other official in PSO history. He , according to NAB inquiry report , compromised national interest in the capacity of GM (Supply) PSO and caused loss of Rs 23 billion to the national exchequer in just one case. PSO had always been in the clutches of a particular mafia . Since , PSO Managing Director usually holds key role in pampering corrupt elements in Pakistan’s oil sector, the oil mafia in most of the cases, uses office of Managing Director PSO to make ill-gotton money.
Syed Nazir Abbas Zaidi is a main player of the same mafia. According to NAB multiple reports, Syed Nazir Abbas Zaidi grossly misused his position in PSO to make ill-gotton money himself, besides passing on undue and illegal benefit of billions of rupee to private sector oil marketing companies. The NAB records also suggested that Syed Nazir Abbas Zaidi’s name had been on the exit control list (ECL) for indulging in corruption of billions of rupee. Now his taking over as OCAC is yet another proof of his loyality to corrupt mafia of Pakistan’s oil sector.
