Pak-US ties boosting efforts underway

US senators visit Foreign Office

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan attaches great importance to its relations with the United State as both countries have common interests and goals in the South Asia region.
Pakistan’s Foreign secretary, Sohail Mahmood, expressed these views during his meetinģ with a delegation of visiting US senators.
A 4-member delegation of US senators headed by senator, Ingus King, senator John Kornain , senator Richard Burer and senator Bunjmin is currently visiting Islamabad. The US senators
had a meeting with Pakistan’s foreign policy- makers at the Foreign Office here on Saturday. Pakistan Foreign Secretary , Sohail Mqhmood, welcomed the US senators on arrival at rhe Foreign Office.
According to a statement issued by Asim Iftikhar, spokesman for Pakistan’s Foreign Office, Foreign secretary had a detailed discussion with the visiting US senators on Pak- US relations, regional and international issues.The
US senators’ visit to Pakistan has come at a time when US and Islamabad were struggling to make- up loss caused to the bilateral ties in the recent past. Pakistan and US had differences on some key issues after Taliban’s takeover in Afghanistan that led to push the ties between the two countrues to the lowest ebb.. US president had not phoned to prime minister, Imran Khan, which showed cool attitude of Biden administration towards Pakistan which added to distrust and lack of understanding between Islamabad and Washington. However, after a few months, Washington seems changing its attitude towards Islamabad. As a bait,the US has resumed some programmes like students visa programme for Pakistani students and some other programmes relating to the training to the military personnel. The US senators’ on- gping visit to Islamabad is also a step towards improvement in Pak-US ties.
US senators also met with prime minister , Imran Khan, Foreign minister, Shah Mahmood Qureshi and army chief, Qamar Javed Bajwa, during their visit to Islamabad.
During these meetings, Pakistan told visiting US senators that Afghan issue needs urgent attention of the world to avert looming human crisis in that country.
