Finance minister meets IMF, World Bank chiefs in Washington

Finance minister Mohammad Aurangzeb meets IMF's managing director, Ms. Kristalina Georgieva. Separately meets CVF- V20 secretary general Mr Nasheed

Washington D.C. – 21st April, 2025: A media note released by the Finance Division here said federal minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met with Managing Director, IMF, Ms. Kristalina Georgieva on the sidelines of the WB/IMF Spring Meetings 2025, Washington D.C. today (Tuesday).

The Minister thanked her team for the Staff-Level Agreement on the First Review under the Extended Fund Facility (EFF) and a new arrangement under the Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).

The minister also assured full support of the Government of Pakistan to stay the course on reforms. He also reiterated the invitation by the Prime Minister of Pakistan to visit the country.

Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, held a meeting with H.E Mohamed Nasheed, Secretary General of the Climate Vulnerable Forum & Vulnerable 20 (CVF-V20).

Appreciated the visit of the team of CVF Secretariat to Pakistan and joint development of the Climate Prosperity Plan (CPP) to explore financing possibilities for specific project proposals.

Informed that Pakistan and World Bank have recently agreed on a decade-long Country Partnership Framework (CPF). Four out of six expected outcomes of CPF addressed the two existential challenges faced by Pakistan i.e. climate and population.

Also briefed on a new arrangement under the IMF’s Resilience and Sustainability Facility (RSF).

Expressed the resolve to jointly work to finalize the projects under the CPP and develop a phased approach for project financing.

Mr Aurangzeb is in Washington DC to attend annual summer meetings of the World Bank and IMF. Alongside annual meetings of the World Bank and IMF Mr Aurangzeb is holding meetings with the leaders of top global banking industry and Finance ministers and economic strategists.
