Islamabad : After a week of challenging each other’s military might , both Pakistan and Iran have quickly shun differences to resume normal bilateral ties . Pakistan ‘s Foreign Office has issued a joint statement of Pakistan and Iran which said both the counties have agreed to resume diplomatic and bilateral relations after recent high level contacts to defuse tension in the wake of missile and airstrikes made by the two sides some one week ago.
The joint statement said following the telephonic contact between the Foreign ministers , Iran and Pakistan have agreed to depute their ambassadors in the respective counties on January 26. It added that on the invitation of Pakistan’s Foreign minister, Jalil Abbas Jilani , Iran Foreign minister,
Hossein Amir-Abdollahian , has agreed to visit Pakistan on January 29,2024.
The relations between Tehran and Islamabad touched lowest level in no time when Iran fired missiles in Balochistan early last week . Although Tehran tried to justify its missile attacks inside Pakistan arguing that it hit Iranian terrorists who had taken refuge in Balochistan province of Pakistan , but Pakistan took Tehran’s attack as a serious breach of its territorial sovereignty and immediately called back its ambassador from that country , besides announcing not to welcome Iran’s ambassador , who was at the time of Iran’s attack in Pakistan, on holiday in his country.
Later , Pakistan launched retaliatory air strikes into Iran to give a clear message to Iran and others that it will not tolerate any threat to its territorial soverignity and go for a tit-for tat policy. However , despite exchange of military actions , both Iran and Pakistan quicky felt that escalation in tension was against their mutual interests . This approach dominated on both sides and they quickly issued reconciliatory statements , leaving a strong message for each other that they are friends and not foes and hence they should accept each other ‘s approach and resume bilateral ties without any delay. Monday’s joint statement is an ample proof that Pakistan and Iran are two neighbouring brotherly counties and they respect each other to move forward and disallow their enemies to damage their bilateral relations.
