In the 21st match of the ICC World Cup 2023 being played in the Indian city of Dharamsala, Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. He got his reward in the fourth over when Siraj walked the in-form Dion Conway. The score had just reached 19 when Rohit Sharma made the first bowling change, bringing in World Cup debutant Mohammad Shami and he lived up to the captain’s confidence and dismissed Will Young on his first ball.
After two wickets fell for 19 runs, Daryl Mitchell came in to support Richan Ravindra and both the players played a responsible game and formed a wonderful partnership for the second wicket. Kuldeep Yadav, who had proven dangerous conceived scored 48 runs in his first five overs.

Rohit Sharma’s individual score was 39 runs when the wicketkeeper failed to catch Mitchell Santner’s ball but the Indian captain could not take advantage of the opportunity and in the next over he was bowled by Lockie Ferguson. ,
Rahul played an innings of 27 runs, but was declared lbw by Mitchell Santner while Surya Kumar Yadav was also dismissed in the next over due to a misunderstanding between the wickets.
