Islamabad : May 8,2024 : The Chairman Pakistan Engineering Council, Engr. Najeeb Haroon, on behalf of the Council is pleased to announce launching of Pakistan’s first specialised construction and engineering ADR/Arbitration Centre at Pakistan International Disputes Weekend 2024, which is being co-hosted by the PEC along with Hon’ble Sindh High Court and Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, London.
The ADR Centre will be launched by the Hon’ble Chief Justice of Sindh High Court and the Chairman PEC on 11th May 2024 at PC Hotel Karachi.
The launch of the PEC ADR Centre is a significant milestone for the construction and engineering industry in Pakistan. The construction sector in Pakistan contributes up to 380 billion PKR to the GDP. However, it has been reported that pending cases related to construction and housing amount to a monetary value of Rs. 1.1 trillion. The various challenges faced in construction dispute resolution in Pakistan include an absence of mandatory case management laws and the inability to introduce effective methods of dispute resolution.
This specialized ADR Centre will provide a dedicated platform for resolving construction and engineering disputes in a more efficient and effective manner. The ADR platform will be the first specialised construction-centric dispute resolution centre in South Asian region.
The establishment of this centre is a testament to Pakistan’s commitment to improving the construction sector’s dispute resolution process. It signifies a major leap forward in addressing the challenges faced in construction dispute resolution, such as time-consuming processes and high costs
