Petrol, diesel prices go up by Rs 8 and Rs 5.16 per liter

Govt policy of adding taxes on petroleum products sale making huge impact on biting inflation , pushing large number of Pakistan below poverty line

Islamabad.: The government has scaled up the prices of petrol and diesel by big margin for the current fortnight.

According to an official notification , the price of petrol has been increased by Rs 8 per litre . Similarly, high speed diesel (HSD) price has been jacked up by Rs 5.16 per litre.

The new petroleum product prices will remain effective till February 28, 2026.

Major jump in the prices of petrol and diesel will have spiral effect and add to inflation to add to unbearable price hike.
A big percentage of Pakistanis is already bracing to rising poverty . The government policy of charging over Rs 100 per litre taxes on one liter on petrol and Rs 86 on diesel has resulted in an unprecedented surge in price hike.

In a recent report , the Shahbaz government had conceded a dangerous surge in poverty in the country. Repeated increases in the prices of petroleum products is considered one of its key reasons.

In the same report , the government had also conceded 23 % increase in the poverty as of December last year.
