LAHORE. Top brass of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) is going to discuss the reasons that led to its crashing defeat in by-polls in Punjab on July 17, 2022 in a high level party meeting being held here.
Prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , is going to chair the party meeting . Hamza Shahbaz and other top brass of the party will attend. Party vice president , Maryam Nawaz, may not be attend the party meeting as she is in isolation due to COVID-19 infection.
The PMLN leadership will take into account all those factors which led to the party shocking defeat in by-elections in Punjab.
The PMLN, which was once considered the most popular party in Punjab, had lost the crucial by-election to its arch rival, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI). The PTI of Imran Khan has won 16 out of 20 seats in by –elections of Punjab .
The Punjab’s by-elections were to decide many future key factors like who will be the chief minister of Punjab and when the new general elections to be held in the country.
The PMLN’s extremely poor performance in by-elections in Punjab has dented its political clout , making difficult for its leadership to rebound in next general elections likely to be held in Pakistan before expiry of constitutional time of the existing assemblies.
The PMLN may take crucial decisions in today’s meeting to get out current mess and work out some strategy to make up for damaged caused to it in the by-elections .
The result of by-elections has trigged a political storm in the country. All political parties have summoned their high level meetings today (Monday) to discuss the possible affect of PTI win in by-elections.
The central executive committee of Pakistan People Party (PPP) is meeting today in Karachi to take stock of the situation emerged from win of PTI in by-elections of Punjab.
The PTI has also summoned a session of its core committee to formulate future strategy after winning the crucial round of by-elections in Punjab.
