ISLAMABAD: June 21, 2023: President, Arif Alvi, has approved Justice, Qazi Faez isa, as next chief justice of Pakistan today (Wednesday).
Justice Faez Isa is the senior most judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan. His appointment will become effective from September 17, 2023 on retirement of incumbent chief justice of Pakistan , Umar Atta Bandial.
As per constitution of Pakistan , the senior most of judge of Supreme Court of Pakistan becomes next chief justice of Pakistan. This constitutional process for appointment of chief justice of Pakistan has ended any speculations or controversy over appointment of top judge of Pakistan.
A similar procedure for appointment of army chief could save Pakistan from bitter controversy over appointment of this key post. Pakistan always faces biting controversy for appointment of the army chief and it not only weakens the system and armed forces institution, but also to the state. There is urgent need to put an end to such controversies to avoid further controversies on key appointments including one of the army chief.
