Price of Chicken and Eggs Skyrockets in Karachi, Sparking Public Outrage

KARACHI, November 20, 2024: The prices of chicken meat and eggs in Karachi have surged dramatically in recent days, placing an additional financial burden on residents, despite the absence of cold weather.

In the past week, the price of chicken meat has soared from Rs530 per kilogram to Rs660 per kilogram, marking an increase of Rs130.

Meanwhile, eggs are being sold at Rs380 per dozen in the retail market, well above the official price of Rs344 per dozen.

In wholesale markets, local eggs are fetching as much as Rs650 per dozen. Poultry traders attribute the price hike to supply issues and the expected increase in demand as the colder months approach.

They caution that prices may continue to rise if temperatures drop in the coming weeks.

Shopkeepers and traders have explained that preparations for the winter season are contributing to the surge in prices.

However, the price increase has sparked frustration among buyers, many of whom are questioning the lack of price control measures.

“Where are the price controllers? Every week, the prices of essential items rise without any explanation,” said a resident of Saddar, expressing discontent over the ongoing price escalation.
