Islamabad : Feb 11, 2024: As per the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) announcement made here on Sunday , Imran Khan ‘s Tehreek – e – Insaf (PTI) backed independents have emerged as winners in Pakistan ‘s general election 2024 with 96 seats .
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PMLN) led by Mian Nawaz Sharif ,stood next to Imran Khan ‘s backed independents in the race for the lower house of the parliament . It won 80 seats of the national assembly. Pakistan People Party (PPP) led by Balawal Bhutto also showed better performance in 2024 elections and it won 54 national assembly seats. PPP had won 34 and 43 seats in 2013 and 2018 elections .
As many as 37 others, mostly those who were denied tickets by their parties ,made their entry to the national assembly in these elections .
Pakistan had gone for general elections on February 8,2024. These elections have been marred by gross irregularities like suspension of mobile service across Pakistan on polling day which baffled the voters and created problems for them in many ways and delays in announcement of the results. Pakistan’s February 8 elections also have less credibility as PTI was put to various kinds of irritants . ECP had withdrew its original electoral symbol of cricket bat. Despite emerging as a big winners despites all odds, PTI is yet to cross many hurdles before its members enter into the lower house of the parliament . Major issue which is haunting it is its identity . ECP had declared its ticket holders as independents and now those who have won despite all technical and otherwise hurdles need to join any party within three days.
PTI is discussing these issues on hourly basis as its race against the time and any delay can hurt it seriously . There is a possibility that PTI backed independents may join Jamaat e Islami (JI) to protect its members elect from horse-trading. PTI has already opened channels with JI and both sides are working on the possible merger.
