ISLAMABAD : As a result of concessions granted by the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP), Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) long march ran over to Islamabad through Sri Nagar Highway and reached to D -Chowk in red zone in the evening on Wednesday . The PTI charged workers took full advantage of the situation and torched trees and properties, besides damaging a number of cars in Islamabad. The police responded to the PTI workers ‘ violence at D-Chowk and resorted to tear gassing and baton charge at the participants of the long march. Meanwhile , PTI chairman , Imran Khan, kept on inciting to the participants of the long march to reach at D-Chowk in Islamabad. The PTI chief ‘s repeated announcements for the participants of the long march to reach at D-Chowk not only resulted in creating chaos in Islamabad, but also pegged his followers against the police in Islamabad, Rawalpindi and many other cities of Pakistan . The day long scuffles and clashes between the police and protestors left many police personnel and protestors injured . Running of PTI workers to D-Chowk in Islamabad on the instructions of Imran Khan is clear disregard to the Supreme Court of Pakistan which had directed to the government to remove containers from all entry points of Islamabad and allocate space in H-9 for PTI gathering.
The PTI chief’s attitude of ignoring SCP”s orders and incite his workers to reach at D-Chowk in Islamabad has raised serious questions for SCP and put Pakistan ‘s security at risk. The PTi march on Islamabad has also put Pakistan on the knife edge .
In the morning , the SCP had heard the PTI petition wherein it sought SCP’s intervention to stop arresting PTI workers and remove containers from roads to allow Islamabad march to reach to Islamabad . The apex court gave broader outlines to both parties and ordered the government and PTI to form a committee and bold talks to keep march peaceful . Despite giving assurance to the apex court, the government and PTI committee did not meet at Commissioner office in Islamabad . The SCP will resume hearing in the case at 9.30 AM on Thursday .
Till filing of this report at 1.30 AM on Thursday, Imran Khan’s rally was at Kahsmir Highway and it was sailing to D-Chowk to join other workers there.
