Islamabad : July 11,2024: With an announcement that the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) is scheduled to announce its verdict in reserved seats case at noon on Friday , a hammer hangs up to fall on either the ruling alliance or the petitioner –Sunni Ittehad Council (SIC). One of two main stakeholders will face the brunt of the decision directly. It, however ,being a very important case is going to affect the whole political landscape of Pakistan. If SIC gets relief and SCP decides the case in its favour ,it may leave Shahbaz government in total chaos. In other case, PTI can step up its anti judiciary campaign and rush to the social media to target senior judges of the superior judiciary of Pakistan. The apex court decision , if the verdict goes in SIC favour , will also rattle the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) also. By recalling the apex court’s observations of the last days hearing in the case, one can guess that the onus of Thursday’s decision is likely to fall on the beneficiaries of ECP ‘s decision in the case. ECP had clearly observed in the last day’s hearing into the case that ECP misinterpreted its decision to award reserve seats to the ruling alliance . If the top court upholds the same observation , then Sharif’s government will no longer survive for long and so will be the fat of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikander Sultan Raja . In any case today’s decision in reserve seats will be of extraordinary significance and it, doubtlessly , will set a tone for the new political scenario in Pakistan.
