Respect rule of law: Pakistan tell Afghan stakeholders

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s top civilian and military leadership had an emergent session of the national security council (NSC) for brainstorming the post Taliban takeover situation in Afghanistan.

Prime minister, Imran Khan, chaired NSC meeting held here on Monday. The federal ministers having security- related portfolios, chiefs of three armed forces and advisor to the prime minister on security attended the NSC meeting .

The prime minister had convened NSC meeting in emergency in the wake of fall of Kabul to Taliban and discuss its pros and cons for Pakistan.

Pakistan was watching Afghan situation very closely since start of Taliban’s assault for throwing out Ashraf Ghani led fragile government and take control of Afghanistan for setting up their government there.

Taliban’s takeover of Afghanistan like a blitz surprised everyone including Pakistan and today’s meeting of NSC was also convened on 24 hours notice.

An official handout issued at the end of NSC meeting said ” The participants of NSC were briefed on the latest situation in Afghanistan and its possible impact on Pakistan”.

According to the handout, NSC was also briefed on Pakistan’s efforts made to find out a peaceful solution to the Afghan problem.

The meeting was informed that Pakistan want to see durable peace in Afghanistan and to achieve this goal it is striving to establish a workable understanding among all stakeholders of Afghanistan.

NSC urged upon Afghan leaderahip that it should make sure that Afghan soil is not used against any country.

NSC urged upon the world community that it should recognise Pakistan’s sacrifices made for bringing all the stakeholders of Afghan issue on a negotiating table to form a comcensus government in Afghanistan.

The meeting also urged upon all Afghan parties to honour the rule of law to pave way for having peace in Afghanistan. It also asked all the Afghan parties including Taliban to honour basic rights of the Afghan people to avoid bloodshed in that war devastated country.
