Revolutionizing AI with the First Local Large Language Model

Jazz introduces Pakistan’s first locally created Large Language Model for AI solutions in collaboration with NUST and NITB

Islamabad: In collaboration with the National Information Technology Board (NITB) and the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST), Pakistan Mobile Communications Limited (Jazz) said in a press release on Wednesday that it has created the country’s first locally developed Large Language Model (LLM).

The goal of this partnership is to develop AI tools that are specific to Pakistan’s circumstances to promote domestic AI solutions for corporations, government organizations, and individuals.

Through offering state-of-the-art AI solutions to national bodies, the LLM program aims to represent Pakistan’s rich cultural and linguistic variety while improving efficiency across multiple sectors.

IT and Telecommunications Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja stated, “This partnership is a milestone for Pakistan’s digital future, combining academia, industry, and government strengths to create a platform that embodies Pakistan’s unique perspective while advancing our technological and cultural sovereignty.”

The CEO of Jazz, Aamir Ibrahim, emphasized how AI may revolutionize Pakistan. “Through this collaboration with NUST and NITB, we aim to bridge the digital divide, empowering communities with tools in their own languages. This national effort will accelerate digital inclusion.”

Javed Mehmood Bukhari, the rector of NUST, discussed the university’s potential to develop AI skills in Pakistan and how the project will serve as the cornerstone of a framework for a forward-thinking digital identity. This five-year MoU will be supervised by senior leaders from NITB, NUST, and Jazz.
