RISJA elects new office bearers

ISLAMABAD: Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA) has unanimously elected new office bearers for the period 2026-27, all the candidates have been elected unopposed, which is a reflection of the trust, unity and consensus among the 60 members of the Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association.

The committee comprising Rana Farhan Aslam, Shakir Abbasi and Asim Jilani, headed by Chairman Election Committee Shehryar Khan, successfully conducted the election process.
According to the results, Abu Bakar Bin Talat President Zulfiqar Baig Senior Vice President, Vice President Asghar Ali Mubarak and Zahid Awan were elected. Ambreen Ali has been elected as General Secretary, Zeeshan Qayyum as Senior Joint Secretary, Owais Latif, Aqeel Anjum as Joint Secretary and Nasir Abbas Naqvi as Finance Secretary.

The Governing Body comprises Faheem Anwar Khan, Gabriel D’Souza, Owais Abbasi, Kiran Khan and Asim Riaz. Speaking on the occasion, President Abu Bakar Bin Talat and General Secretary Ambreen Ali thanked all RISJA members for reposing faith and trust in the newly elected body. They pledged to uphold the association’s long-standing traditions of professionalism, unity and integrity while working collectively for the welfare of sports journalists. They reiterated their commitment to promote ethical sports journalism, foster close cooperation among members and ensure that RISJA continues to play a leading role in the development of sports journalism in Pakistan. Addressing the gathering, (RISJA) Chairman Shakeel Ahmed Awan and Patron-in-Chief Abdul Muhi Shah extended their heartfelt congratulations to the new leadership. He appreciated the democratic spirit of the House and stressed that the uncontested elections reflect complete trust, stability and consensus within the community which will pave the way for greater institutional development. Meanwhile, Pakistan Federal Union of Journalists President Afzal Butt; National Press Club (NPC) President Abdul Razak Sial. Secretary Furqan Rao; Finance Secretary Abid Abbasi; PRA Secretary Naveed Akbar, former NPC President Tariq Chaudhry and senior journalists congratulated the newly elected office bearers.

They expressed confidence that the new leadership would further strengthen the Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA), protect the rights of sports journalists and uphold the association’s proud legacy of professionalism and unity. The Rawalpindi Islamabad Sports Journalists Association (RISJA), established in 1986, is the only registered organization of sports journalists, dedicated to promoting sports journalism, professionalism and welfare of sports journalists in the twin cities.
