Islamabad : After a long legal battle , Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) has finally gained much -demanded relief for its founding chairman and former prime minister , Imran Khan , as Pakistan ‘s top court granted bail to him in 8 cases registered against him in May 9 ,2023 rowdyism .
A Lahore anti terrorism court had rejected Imran Khan’s pleas’ in May 9, 2023 cases in 2024.
Later, the Lahore High Court (LHC) had also rejected Imran Khan’s pleas challenging anti terrorism court decision for bail in these cases. Imran Khan had challenged LHC ‘s verdict in May 9 rowdyism cases before the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) .
A 3-member bench of SCP headed by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) , Justice Yahya Afridi and comprised of Justices Muhammad Shafi Siddiqui and Hasan Azhar Rizvi, heard Imran Khan’s petitions today (Thursday) . The bench raised two basic legal questions during the proceedings of the case.
Barrister Salman Safdar, counsel for Imran Khan, argued that in a case of an individual LHC granted bail in identical case and further pleaded before the bench that his client, who is a former prime minister of Pakistan , be granted bail in the cases of May 9, 2023. SCP put the same legal questions to the Punjab Special Prosecutor , Manzoor Naqvi.
CJP Yahya Afridi during the hearing observed that the bench is not discussing merits of the decision made by LHC, but the legal points raised in the case. He added that if a person is granted the bail in identical cases why the same can not be applied in the cases under hearing before this bench.
After hearing the counsel of Imran Khan and the Punjab Special Prosecutor , the apex court set a side the decision of LHC and granted PTI founding chief , Imran Khan bail in 8 cases related to May 9 , 2023 rowdyism. CJP announced the decision.

PTI in its official account X said SCP has granted bail to party founding chairman , Imran Khan . It added that SCP’s decision in favour of Imran Khan ‘s pleas in May 9 cases is a big victory for the party.
