Shahbaz Sharif holds crucial consultative meetings with coalition partners

ISLAMABAD : Prime minister , Shahbaz Sharif , on Monday held separate consultative meetings with key coalition partners on basic question of either the government should take gloves off at a time when Pakistan is faced with the worst ever financial crisis and go for mid term general elections without electoral reforms or it should go other way around and fight on two fronts. economic to divert Pakistan’s looming default on payments and political to compete with the Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI ) whose chief and ousted prime minister , Imran Khan, is throwing challenge of mid term elections .
Since nothing has officially been said by the government spokesmen on the outcome of the prime minister’s meetings with coalition partners it seems the coalition government is in two minds . Its key leaders like former prime minister , Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and some others ‘ statements on Monday suggest that some key coalition partners are not supportive of the proposal to dissolve assemblies and call new general elections in the country.
Shahid Khaqan Abbasi had claimed in his media talk on Monday that the coalition government was struggling to make corrections on economic front to stop meltdown of the national economy. He never hinted at early elections in the country. Foreign minister , Bilawal Bhutto’s departure plan to embark upon his maiden visit to the United States was an other indication that Shahbaz Sharif was not going to use option of mid term elections in the country. Rather , his government was ready to do fireworks to cease downfall of the national economy. But the question still remains unanswered as to how the Shahbaz led coalition government will stop overriding of PTI which is all out for mid term elections . Another question that would boggle ones mind is how the coalition government would tackle imminent march of PTI on Islamabad . The prime minister is likely to continue consultation with the coalition partners on Tuesday (today).
