ISLAMABAD: Shaikh Ansar Aziz has resigned as Mayer Islamabad., Shaikh Ansar Aziz submitted his hand written resignation to the Election Commission of Pakistan on Tuesday.
It does not indicate any reason of resigning. However, sources close to Shaikh Ansar Aziz told NEWSMAN Shaikh Ansar Aziz has resigned in protest against the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) government decision of handing over key departments of metropolitan Islamabad to the Capital Development Authority (CDA).
Shaikh Ansar Aziz believes PTI government was intentionally damaging office of Mayor Islamabad by transferring its all key departments to CDA and hence he can not sit in a powerless office just to complete tenure as Mayor Metropolitan Islamabad, sources added.
The federal government had transferred 4 departments which were previously with Metropolitan to CDA through a notification on October 5, 2020.
Shaikh Ansar Aziz is a trusted aide to deposed prime minister , Nawaz Sharif.
With ouster of Nawaz Sharif and coming in of PTI government its Islamabad based MNA , Ali Nawaz Awan , started to play against Shaikh Ansar Aziz One fine morning, Shaikh was dismissed as Mayor Islamabad. Although , the court reinstated him but PTI never accepted him as Mayor Metropolitan Islamabad . PTI government finally made a move to cut to size the power of the Mayor office to force Shaikh Ansar Aziz to resign from office.
This PTI trick worked to the expectations of its hawks and Shaikh Ansar Aziz finally resigned in protest from his post of Mayor Islamabad.
