SHC seeks reply on petition against road closure

Khurtum Karachi: Sindh High Court (SHC) has sought reply from Sindh government and Deputy Commissioner Karachi South on a constitutional petition filed by Pasban Democratic Party (PDP) over closure of some busy roads in the megacity.

As per details, a division bench comprising Justice Muhammad Junaid Ghaffar and Justice Mrs. Rashida Asad heard the constitutional petition 2523/2021 filed on the instructions of PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor against closure of some busy roads in the megacity.

During the hearing PDP lawyer Irfan Aziz Advocate maintained that the government of Sindh, Commissioner Karachi, DIG Traffic and Deputy Commissioner South has blocked some roads illegally. He said no advertisement was issued for closing down these roads and no sort of awareness was given to general public and niether their suggestions and objections were sought.

He said these roads include Fatima Jinnah Road leading to Avari Towers hotel, Karam Ali Talpur Road opposite Empress Market, and double road near Sindh Assembly. He said that citizens are facing traffic jams due to closure of these roads.

He said PDP Chairman Altaf Shakoor approached courts and DIG Traffic opened Fatima Jinnah Road. However, when the case was discharged, this road was again closed down. He said contracts of parking on these roads are given to private contractors against hefty amounts.

However, after listening to Irfan Aziz Advocate, the honourable court instructed the Sindh government and DC South to file their comments and adjourned the hearing.
