Telenor service goes off in Pakistan

Operator silent on what caused disruption . PTA clarifies situation

ISLAMABAD : Telenor service has gone shut down in Pakistan , bringing millions of its customers off the line.
Telenor service in Pakistan went off on Thursday at around 12 noon and it was off till filing of the story at around 6 pm.
Telenor did not update its customers as to what caused disruption in its service in Pakistan. Its website was silent even hours after disruption in service had nothing on this issue .
However, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) issued a statement guiding Telenor customers to let them have an idea why there cell phones and internet service was not working , besides helping the media in Pakistan to know the cause of disruption in Telenor service in Pakistan. The PTA statement issued on Thursday afternoon said “Telenor service has gone down due to cut off of cable from different locations . The PTA also clarified that the efforts were underway to sort out the issue and restore Telenor service in affected region of Pakistan as early as possible . The authority added it was monitoring the repair and maintenance work of damaged cable .
Telecom sector sources said cutting of cable that caused disruption in Telenor service in some areas of Pakistan was the first in its kind and it could be a well planned scheme to target service of a foreign country in Pakistan.
