Islamabad: 43 researchers from the National University of Sciences & Technology (NUST) were named among the top 2% of scientists globally for 2024, a significant accomplishment for Pakistan’s academic scene.
Stanford University and Elsevier honor scholars who have a significant impact in domains like cybersecurity, engineering, and artificial intelligence with this yearly listing.
As the number of scientists on the list has continuously increased from nine in 2021 to 23 in 2022, 31 in 2023, and now 43, this milestone demonstrates NUST’s growing significance in international research.

According to the QS University Rankings, NUST is recently ranked 64th in Asia and 353rd globally, firmly establishing itself as one of Pakistan’s top research universities.
The Stanford and Elsevier ranking evaluates scientists according to a combination of authorship roles, the Hirsch index, and citation counts, among other criteria, to determine their scientific importance.
Dr. Muhammad Shahid, Dr. Noreen Sher Akbar, Dr. Meraj Mustafa Hashmi, and Dr. Rizwan Ul Haq are among the distinguished researchers at NUST who have made noteworthy contributions in various fields, including physics, materials science, biomedical research, nanotechnology, and cybersecurity.
