EAP demands end to free power provision, excessive billing

EAP chairman Mian Akram Farid counts reasons hampering Pakistan's growth in meeting with Commerce minister , Ejaz Gohar

ISLAMABAD. Sept 3 : Caretaker federal minister for Commerce and Trade, Dr Gihar Ejaz, has said the positive initiatives and attitude of Pakistani exporters will enhance Pakistan’s case to the European Union (EU) for the next grant of GSP Plus status.

The caretaker minister assured to a delegation of the Employers Association of Pakistan (EAP) that the government was fully committed to provide an enabling ecosystem to exporters and advised to EFP to encourage all its members to comply with the conditions of the global institutions. President Malik Tahir Javed said that the Employers Federation of Pakistan is giving an award to such businesses on December 25 in Karachi who have taken measures related to the elimination of child labor, safety and health of industrial workers and others.

Chairman central , Mian Akram Farid, also suggested to the federal minister to start the process of visiting chambers in all major cities. He requested to the minister thet it will be an honor if he visits ICCI in the first. He pointed out that expensive electricity bills is an injustice to traders and people,

Mian Akram Farid suggested that the government should bring a new policy for overseas Pakistanis as it will increase remittances. He said that the government should not increase the price so much that the consumers cannot pay the bills. Mian Akram Farid said the provision of free electricity supply to government employees and officers should be stopped, power plant owners should meet with the power plant owners. prices should be brought down, businesses cannot run due to unaffordable expensive electricity.

President Global Compact Network Pakistan Majeed Aziz told the Federal Minister that Global Compact Network Pakistan’s has launched an awareness campaign to follow the ten principles of the international agreement. He added that it is important that the government works with employer organizations to establish practical policies and institutional frameworks to promote a safety culture and ensure full compliance with all standards.
