Violent attack on senior PMS officer sparks alarm over security of civil servants in KP

Peshawar – A serious security incident involving a senior provincial officer has triggered widespread concern within administrative circles, as the Provincial Management Service (PMS) Officers Association of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa strongly condemned a violent attack on Kashif Iqbal Jilani, Director General of the Halal Food Authority.

According to details, Kashif Iqbal Jilani, a serving PMS officer, was attacked earlier today near his native village while en route to his office. The nature of the assault has raised alarm bells among civil servants, highlighting growing risks faced by government officers performing their duties in the field.

In an official statement issued , the PMS Officers Association termed the incident a “blatant act of violence” and emphasized that it goes beyond a personal attack. The Association described the assault as a direct challenge to the writ of the state and the institutional integrity of the civil service structure in the province.

The statement underscored that such incidents foster an environment of fear and insecurity among officers, potentially undermining their ability to carry out responsibilities with transparency and effectiveness. It further warned that continued threats to public servants could adversely impact governance and service delivery in sensitive regions.

Chairman of the PMS Association, Noman Wazir, expressed grave concern over the safety of officers, particularly those working in field assignments. He urged the provincial authorities to take immediate and decisive action.

The government must ensure a swift, impartial, and transparent investigation into the incident, the statement read, calling for the prompt arrest of those responsible, including any facilitators or masterminds behind the attack.

The Association also called for enhanced security measures for civil servants, noting that field officers are increasingly exposed to threats while executing their official duties.

So far, no official statement has been issued by law enforcement authorities regarding the progress of the investigation. However, the incident is expected to prompt urgent discussions within the provincial government on strengthening security protocols for public officials.

The attack on a senior officer has once again highlighted the challenges faced by civil servants in volatile areas, raising critical questions about the adequacy of existing security arrangements and the need for immediate policy interventions to safeguard those serving the state.
