RAWALPINDI: Army chief , Qamar Javed Bajwa, on Monday stressed the need to make the world community realised that Afghanistan was in dire need of its financial help and any delay in this context could create a worse human crisis in that war- torn country. He added that any crisis in Afghanistan could spill over to the region and then to the other parts of the world to bring instability in South Asia, in particular, and in other parts of the world, in general.
The army chief made these assertions during his meeting with United States (US) representative who called on him in his office in Rawalpindi on Monday.
The US representative had arrived in Islamabad a day before to attend the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC) extraordinary session of foreign ministers. Pakistan had hosted OIC FMs session in Islamabad on December 19, 2021. The OIC session had urged the world to come foward to help Afghanistan to avert looming human crisis. Million of Afghans have no shelter and food to keep their relation between breath and body intact. The OIC had acknowleged Pakistan’s efforts to help Afghanistan in these difficult times. The conference also reminded to the Afghan interim government to honour its obligations of making a real inclusive government in Afghanistan, besides honouring its other commitments like ensuring human and minority rights, right of education to Afghan girls and safety and security for women at workplaces in Afghanistan to seek much- needed financial assistance from Europe and US.
The army chief appreciated US repreaentative’s participation in OIC conference.
The US representative appreciated Pakistan’s role in convincing Afghan government to honour its commitments made with the international community for ensuring women rights, besides providing them security and safety at workplaces in Afghanistan. He also maintained that the US was willing to work with Pakistan for expanding diplomatic relations with it. He said the US fully supports Pakistan’s efforts for peace and stability in Afghanistan.
