WB Rates Pakistan’s Flood Resilience Project as “Moderately Unsatisfactory”

ISLAMABAD, December 2, 2024: The World Bank’s  (WB) assessment of Pakistan’s Integrated Flood Resilience and Adaptation Project (IFRAP) as “moderately unsatisfactory” suggests that the project has faced significant challenges in its implementation.

The project, with a budget of approximately $213 million, was launched on July 3, 2023, to support communities affected by the devastating 2022 floods and enhance their capacity to withstand future flood events.

Despite significant preparatory progress, including the appointment of key project officials and the establishment of the Federal Project Management Unit (FPMU), physical progress has been slow due to procedural delays.

As of now, the project has disbursed $2.324 million, and the closing date is scheduled for December 31, 2028.

The project consists of six components, with the first focused on community infrastructure rehabilitation.

This component aims to rebuild vital infrastructure in flood-affected districts, particularly in Balochistan, including roads, bridges, irrigation and flood protection systems, and water supply facilities.

However, slow administrative processes have hindered the pace of physical work, impacting the overall progress of the initiative.
