Young doctors thrashed outside PMC for protest

ISLAMABAD; The young doctors, who had assembled outside Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) in Islamabad from across Pakistan, for protest were badly thrashed by the Islamabad police on Tuesday.
The police also arrested 20 young doctors who were participating in the protest.

After “barbaric” baton- charging the young doctors’ repsentatives talked to media outside PMC wherein they announced to call -off the protest and declared to close down OPDs across Pakistan from October 6, 2021 (today).

In the first fallout, the doctors in Lahore took to the road outside the Services Hospital Lahore to protest against thrashing of their colleagues in Islamabad. The young doctors are up in the arms against different decisions taken by PMC in the last two years. These are not young doctors only who are on the roads against PMC, medical students and pre medical students are aslo protesting its different decisions including MDCAT 2021 debacle.
Since its introduction in 2019 , PMC had taken a number of controversial decisions. It failed to conduct two MDCATs in proper manners in its two years age. Its MDCAT 2021 has turned into a nightmare for thousands of candidates of MDCAT who were declared unsuccessful in the last entry test. The pre medical students alleged that the paper for MDCAT 2021 was taken out of sylabus. The parents and students in thousands are protesting against PMC for holding “Out of course” MDCAT entry test for medical and dental colleges. The young doctors too call PMC’s decision of holding NLE for issance of degree for practice as ridiculous. In the same context,
the young doctors had gathered outside PMC in the federal capital to protest its decision of conducting National Licencing Examination (NLE) to qualify for practice. PMC is insisting to hold NLE to all those graduate doctors who studied for 5 years and then completed one year house job to qualify as a professional doctors.

PMC’s decision of holding NLE is a mockery of the medical exams system . It also establishes that the medical profession was name of unpredictabilities in Pakistan and PMC can bring in any regulations whenever it thinks appropriate even without taking its stakesholders in confidence..
