RAWALPINDI. August 17, 2022. After hours long stand -off , the Adiyala jail authorities finally handed over Shahbaz Gill, Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf (PTI) arrested leader , to Islamabad police for his investigation in anti army statement case here on Wednesday.
Following the court ruling , the Islamabad police had arrived at Adiyala jail to take over Shahbaz Gill for investigation in the case filed against him for giving an inciting statement involving the army , but the jail authorities declined to accept the court orders and insisted to shift the accused to a hospital of their choice.
The jail authorities’ behaviour that is tauntamount to obstruction in the process of justice created a clash like situation between the federal and Punjab government.
This unfortunate episode continued for hours at Adiyala jail here.
The federal government had information that the Adiyala jail authorities were reluctant to handover Shahbaz Gill to the Islamabad police for investigations in the case in question on the direction of PTI chairman , Imran Khan.
Finally , after exausting all options to get custody of Shahbaz Gill from Adiyala jail authorities , the federal government decided to call in the Rangers to get implemented the court orders and take custody of Shahbaz Gill through use of force .
The Adiyala jail authorities on getting information that the federal government is calling in the Rangers finally handed over Shahbaz Gill to the Islamabad police at around 9.30 PM.
After taking into custody , the Islamabad police took Shahbaz Gill to PIMS hospital in Islamabad for medical check up. On arrival at PIMS , a 5-member medical board examined Shahbaz Gill.
The report of the medical board would determined as if Shahbaz Gill should be admitted to PIMS hospital or the police should investigate him for next two days.
Earlier, a court of district and session Judge Islamabad had accepted the request of Islamabad police to grant it physical remand of Shahbaz Gill for completion of investigation process to file a challan before the court in the case .
