Rawalpindi : The promotion of Christian Commando Major General Julian Muazzam James on merit is a historical milestone of Pakistan Armed Forces.
Army Selection Board meeting chaired by Army Chief General Asim Munir on Friday decided to promote 22 Brigadiers to the rank of Major General.
Major General Julian Moazzam James has made history as the first Christian commando officer of the elite Special Services Group and achieved this honor in the 76-year history of the Pakistan Army. He commanded SSG Brigade Tarbela, and Air Defense Brigade Sargodha. Besides, he has served as Defense Attaché in Nigeria for three years.
He has done Air Defense Staff Course, Intelligence Staff Course, Pakistan Staff Course, National Security War Course.

He was an officer in the British Indian Army in the First and Second World Wars. Initially educated at Eton College and Royal Military College, Sandhurst, he was commissioned in the Indian Army in 1913. From 1914 to 1918, he took part in the Middle East War against the Ottoman Turks in World War I and then served in Kurdistan in 1919. From 1932 to 1936, he was also posted as an instructor in Staff College, Quetta. In the Second World War, he reached the rank of colonel in the Indian Army in September 1939 and served in Sudan. Meseravi was the only British Indian Army officer to command a British division during World War II. When Pakistan came into existence, General Sir Douglas David Gracie was appointed as the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of General Meseravi, so after the retirement of General Meseravi, Gracie became the next Commander-in-Chief of the army. General Gracie retired on January 16, 1951, after completing his regular term of service, a year after the cease-fire in Kashmir.
