KARACHI : Dec 20, 2022: US dollar made marginal gain in domestic market against the rupee on Tuesday. Its rate increased in interbank by 25 paisa that helped it close at Rs 225.25 against the rupee in interbank at the closing of the session .
At the mid day session , US dollar had closed at Rs 225 .
In open market , US dollar did not show any change and it closed at Rs 231.50.
Saudi Riyal also remained stable on December 20. It opened in the morning session at Rs 63 and closed at the same rate at the end of last session.
United Arab Emirate (UAE) dirham rate opened at Rs 67 and closed at the same rate at the closing of the day session.
Euro made handsome gain of Rs 1.10 which moved its value to Rs 253.50 from Rs 252.40. pound sterling last value by one rupee and ended up at Rs 292. Its value in the first session was recorded at Rs 293.
Canadian dollar did not show any change in its value . It opened in the morning session at Rs 175 and closed at the last session at the same value .
There is some lull in the currency market and the government harsh crackdown on smuggling of foreign currency from Pakistan to Afghanistan could be its one reason.
Seeing unreasonable level of cross border money smuggling in recent months , the government has asked all relevant agencies to take strict action against those who were involved in smuggling of US dollar and other currencies from Pakistan to Afghanistan .
