WASHINGTON, October 23, 2024: Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb met with Brent Neiman, Assistant Secretary for International Finance at the US Treasury Department, and both sides discussed key economic reforms aimed at strengthening Pakistan’s financial landscape.
During the meeting, Minister Aurangzeb briefed Mr. Neiman on several initiatives, including efforts to broaden the tax base, align provincial AIT regimes with federal personal and corporate income tax rates, and rationalize subsidies.
He also emphasized the need for reforms in the energy sector, an overhaul of State-Owned Enterprises (SOEs), and strategies to build climate resilience through the implementation of the C-PIMA Action Plan and enhanced investments in climate adaptation.
Furthermore, the Finance Minister expressed his appreciation for the United States’ support in securing the IMF’s Extended Fund Facility for Pakistan, highlighting its importance for the country’s economic stability and growth.
